History of the Disposable Diaper

Author: Jodaon Broeng

It was during the late 1950's when disposable diapers were first discovered. These diapers became the substitute for cloth diapers. This invention solved the problem of long hours spent on washing and drying cloth diapers. Parents were happy with this great breakthrough. Thanks to Pampers diapers for giving us this convenient product.

Pampers diapers is a product manufactured by Procter & Gamble. It was invented by an engineer from Procter & Gamble. The idea came when he was babysitting his grandchild in 1956. He wanted a way to keep the baby dry. He started to do research into this idea of making a disposable diaper. He wanted this diaper to be absorbent which could avoid leaks and at the same time it should keep the baby dry. It was in 1961 when Pampers disposable baby diaper was introduced.

At first, supermarkets and retailers did not know where to display Pampers diapers. Sometimes they are stock along the food section, paper products and also in the drug section. Parents use them only for special occasions or during traveling. It had a slow start but later on it eliminates the use of cloth diaper in the late 1960's.

From then on, Pampers has become the leading baby diaper in the baby product industry. The success of this product can be attributed to its technological advances. Throughout the years, Pampers became innovators. Some of their innovations include tape fasteners, elastic leg design, a thin diaper with absorbent gel and many more. You can find a lot of baby diaper products in the grocery stores, but Pampers is still number one. The main reason for this is the commitment and the innovation that they provide.

  1. Great blog entry. It is hard to believe that disposable diapers have only been around for the last fifty years. Things do seem to be going back to the old ways now though with many people again preferring the cloth diapers. I guess it depends on the life of the mother, her beliefs and whether she has time or not.
